» Floridians 65 and older numbered almost 3 million in 2005, an increase of 26% from 1990. Of those, about 1.7 million are women.

» The number of Floridians ages 45 to 64 increased by 72% from 1990 to 2005.

» About 1 in 6 Floridians is 65 or older, compared with 1 in 8 nationwide.

» By 2030, Florida's older population will almost double.

» Florida's 85+ population is projected to increase from 422,000 to 942,000 in 2030.

» Nationwide, people age 65 have an average life expectancy of an additional 18.2 years --19.5 years for women and 16.6 years for men.

A crowd cheered and took photos as two loggerhead sea turtles slowly made their way through the sand and into the Atlantic Ocean. Monday's turtle release marked the end of their rehabilitation at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach, Florida.
